2026 YEP programs
The League of Korean Americans–Maryland (LOKA) is proud to once again be a recipient of Howard County’s Youth Engagement Programming (YEP) Grant. This grant supports community organizations in creating free, accessible, and supportive programs that promote youth engagement throughout Howard County. The YEP program provides resources for nonprofits to develop activities for young people outside of traditional school hours, helping students build skills, confidence, and community connections. Through YEP programming, LOKA offers a variety of initiatives designed to support the academic, personal, and social development of local youth. These activities include seminars focused on academic and career readiness, discussions that support mental health and wellness, and community events that encourage students to stay active and connected—such as community runs, talent showcases, and cultural engagement opportunities.
Quarter 1 Events and Activities
We have hosted 4 new events and programs in the 1st quarter.
1. Korean American Day Celebration
Date: January 13th, 2026
Description: LOKA hosted a Korean American Day Celebration to honor the history, culture, and contributions of Korean Americans in the United States. The event brought together students, families, and community members to learn about the significance of Korean American Day while celebrating Korean heritage through cultural activities and community engagement. Through this program, youth participants had the opportunity to connect with their cultural identity, build pride in their heritage, and strengthen their sense of belonging within the Howard County community.
2. Resume & Interview Prep Seminar
Date: February 7th, 2026
Description: LOKA hosted a Resume and Interview Preparation Seminar to help students develop the skills needed to succeed in internships, part-time jobs, and future career opportunities. During the seminar, participants learned how to build strong resumes, present their experiences effectively, and prepare for common interview questions. The session also provided practical tips on professional communication and confidence-building, helping students feel more prepared to navigate the job and internship application process.

3. Civic Engagement Workshop
Date: March 14th, 2026
Description: LOKA hosted a Civic Engagement Workshop that encouraged students to become active participants in their communities. As part of the workshop, students volunteered their time to support voter registration efforts, helping community members learn about the registration process and the importance of civic participation. Through this experience, participants gained a deeper understanding of civic responsibility, community service, and the impact young people can have in strengthening democracy.
4. AAPI Youth Leadership Program (2026 Cohort)
Description: LOKA's AAPI Youth Leadership Program provides students with hands-on opportunities to learn about advocacy, leadership, and the legislative process. Through this program, participating students are supporting LOKA's efforts to pass the Korean American Day bill in the Maryland General Assembly during the 2026 legislative session. Students engage in civic learning by helping raise awareness about the bill, participating in advocacy efforts by testifying in front of legislative committees, and gaining firsthand experience in how community voices can shape public policy.
Quarter 2 Events and Activities
1. Partnership with High School Korean American Student Association (KASA) Clubs
Description: LOKA has partnered with Korean American Student Association (KASA) clubs at several high schools across Howard County to strengthen youth leadership and community engagement. Through this partnership, students collaborate with LOKA to organize cultural, educational, and community service activities that celebrate Korean American heritage while building leadership skills. The partnership also creates opportunities for students from different schools to connect, share experiences, and work together on initiatives that positively impact their community.

2025 YEP programs
League of Korean Americans-MD (LOKA) is a proud recipient of Howard County’s 2025 Youth Engagement Programming (YEP!) Grant. This YEP! Program promotes youth activities and engagement in Howard County through free, accessible, and supportive programming developed by nonprofit and community organizations. The goal of these grants is to provide community organizations with the resources to develop programs for young people in Howard County that are offered outside of traditional school hours LOKA has developed a series of activities including monthly seminars to support students in their academic and career growth, mental health resources, and events to encourage students to be active such as a community run and a talent show.
Quarter 1 Events and Activities
1. Resume & Interview Prep Seminar
Date: 2/15/2025
Description: On Saturday, LOKA hosted a successful Resume and Interview Preparation Seminar for high school and college students. A total of 31 students attended and gained valuable insights on strengthening their resumes and honing their interview skills.

2. Lunar New Year Festival
Date: 2/15/2025
Description: LOKA participated in the Lunar New Year Festival for Asian Pacific Islander residents, held at the Epicenter in Harford County. Many groups showcased their diverse cultures; Korean Americans performed traditional routines that captivated the audience. LOKA was proud to celebrate and empower fellow Asian Americans in this festive, multicultural exchange.

Quarter 3 Events and Activities
We have hosted a new event in the 3rd quarter.
1. Honoring Our Legacy, Celebrating Our Community
Date: July 22nd, 2025
Description: LOKA hosted the "Honoring Our Legacy, Celebrating Our Community" event, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Korean War. The event honored veterans, remembered the sacrifices made, and celebrated the resilience of the Korean American community.
